This Ilk


🧵 Bold, Lightweight Jewellery

This Ilk started in Montreal in 2008 with one bold haircut and a bit of lace. After studying industrial design, founder Tamara Bavdek was craving change and chopped her long hair into a daring ‘60s-style bowl cut. Looking to bring back a touch of femininity, she drew inspiration from Edie Sedgwick’s fearless style: big earrings, bold makeup, and plenty of attitude.

Tamara tried to recreate a pair of Edie-inspired earrings, and along the way discovered that lace could be as powerful in jewellery as gold is in metalwork. That one idea grew into a collection of bold, feather-light statement pieces that feel as good as they look.

The hair grew back, but the love for playful, standout jewellery never left. Today, This Ilk is stocked in over 30 boutiques across Canada, the U.S., and beyond. Every piece is still rooted in that original spark: retro-inspired, made with care, and built to make a statement—without weighing you down.
